Shalini Ganendra on Views of Ceylon – Narratives of A Collection
7 July 2021
Shalini Ganendra (Academic Associate, History of Art; Research Fellow, St. Catz) recently gave a talk exploring the impact of the photographic image as a visual agent of colonial impressions of Ceylon, with consideration of continuing ripples forward. The investigation reviews briefly the Pitt River’s early photography collection of Ceylon and offers a more detailed study of a recently ‘discovered’ collection of materials (Jermyn Folio). The review considers integrated histories and dynamics of image, presentation, collecting and the reflected Veins of Influence. (Talk: 45 mins.)
