Photography Oxford is a charity that works to bring internationally acclaimed photography and photographic debate to the city of Oxford and its environs, drawing in a wider arts audience, furthering debate, and celebrating the art of photography through the curated programme of the triennial Photo Oxford festival. Photo Oxford uses photography as an accessible art medium that transcends language barriers and conventional communication to connect people, facilitate storytelling and explore identity. For the 3rd Photo Oxford, from 16 October to 16 November 2020, we will explore and celebrate ‘Women and Photography: ways of seeing and being seen'. In partnership with the HEIR Archive, we look forward to uncovering and sharing with the public fascinating and rarely seen photographic images of women in the Empire, with women as photographers and as photographed.
